This is sadly accurate. I loved that you touched on podcasts. I recently created one for myself and it actually costs me about $500-$600 a month to operate it (when doing it well). And it hasn't brought me any money yet and likely won't for at least a year. Even then, I might never make the start up costs back. Right now it's a hobby I enjoy doing, but definitely not something people can just record and put out there and somehow get Patreon subscriptions. It's a second job that I have to pay for the privilege to do.
